Radicalisation and Extremism
We aim to provide for all children in St Austin’s Catholic Primary School, the opportunity to explore the many issues of diversity and to provide them with an understanding of Britain as a multi-cultural society. We do this in a safe learning environment in which children can raise any questions and concerns they may have. We aim to help them to explore differences and lead them to know and understand the boundaries of what’s acceptable, and in this way help them to develop with an open attitude to multi-cultural and race issues.
In our school we encourage all staff and children to believe, that people should treat everyone with respect and dignity, regardless of their race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, special need or disability. Teachers and Support Staff will engage with children in promoting a positive attitude to others with a focus on shared values whilst developing a high regard for themselves. By building their own self-esteem children are encouraged to stand firm and be positive about others and not be influenced by any negative peer pressure they may encounter. We want children to know and understand themselves and others as they come to an understanding of Modern British Values. They will have the opportunity to engage in age appropriate opportunities for discussion and debate, based on sound knowledge and understanding.
